As a philatelist in one of the top auction houses in the world, I’m very pleased to say that I have already handled some spectacular world rarities in my 6 years at David Feldman. However it’s very rare that I get excited about an email asking “are my stamps are valuable?”.

999 times out of a thousand I have to reply to politely tell them that there is no value at all in what they have.

However for the first time since I’ve been here, we’ve received an enquiry that I’m truly excited about. Now we have them in the office I can share my excitement!

The image has obviously already given the game away, but we have had consigned to us the Victoria “Stamp Duty” issues up to the £100 in mint condition.

I know very few of the high values exist unused and I haven’t even been able to find any that have sold publicly.

All I know is what I have read from the important reference book “The Stamps of Victoria” by Geoff Kellow. For example, who knew there was 16 printings of the £100 in lithographed, recessed and surface printed?!

Those who are interested will get their chance when they come up for auction in our June 1st-6th auction series.
