What a wonderful city Athens is?
I was so privileged to be present at the recent NOTOS exhibition and witness the coming together of 11 of the 13 recorded Solferino stamps of the Large Hermes Heads (Note all 13 are listed on the Museum of Philately website www.museumofphilately.com).
The presentation of these great rarities was simply superb and created a wonderful backdrop to what ended up as a wonderful exhibition. Some of the greatest collectors were present showing wonderful collections.
The Grand Prix winners were as follows:
GRAND PRIX DE LA CLASSE DES CHAMPIONS
Winner: Dr. Morani, Vittorio (Italy) Tuscany 1836 to GPU (up to 30 June 1875) “Letter mail in, from and to Tuscany: routes, rates and charges”
GRAND PRIX INTERNATIONAL
Winner: Hackmey, Joseph (Turkey) Tughra Stamps of The Ottoman Empire 1862-1864
GRAND PRIX NATIONAL
Winner: Karagianidis, Anestis (Greece) Greece: The 1896 Olympic Issue
I was able to meet and greet each of the winners who were of course delighted with their results. In addition the Museum of Philately made a presentation to an enthusiastic audience. An updated Museum Musing is available on their website. Last but by no means least I must thank Costas Chazapis and his whole team for all their hard work in bringing this exhibition together. Bravo !
