In the beautiful surroundings of Lugano the Helvetia 2022 World Stamp Exhibition went ahead during 18th to 22nd MAY 2022 and the David Feldman SA team were there to meet clients, present our Italian auction catalogue material for viewing as well as present our upcoming auction and to take consignments for our future set of specialised auctions.  The show was well attended despite the temperatures reaching 31 degrees and the lure of the restaurants and bars surrounding the lake.

The exhibition had FIP Patronage and FEPA Recognition, and was celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Sitting Helvetia, the first perforate Swiss stamp and the first to bear the appellation Helvetia, still used today. It was organised by the Swiss Federation of Philatelic Societies in cooperation with the Philatelic Society of Lugano. There were over 440 exhibitors from all over the world, the standard of exhibits was very high with some many spectacular collections on display.

The highlight being the Palmares dinner where the medals and awards were presented. Here is a summary of the results:-

World Stamp Champion: Adriano Bergamini (Switzerland), “Postal relations between Ticino (Switzerland) and foreign countries before the UPU”

Grand Prix International: Simon Martin-Redman (United Kingdom), “Sarawak – The first forty years 1858-1898”

Grand Prix National: Joseph Hackmey (United Kingdom), “Classic Switzerland”

It was particularly pleasing to see Simon Martin-Redman win the International Grand Prix just a week after his exhibit was presented in the Museum of Philately, which can be viewed by visiting the website. Congratulations to the winners and all those who took part, and well done to the organisers for putting on a successful stamp exhibition.
